William Butler Yeats was born in Dublin, Ireland on 3rd June, 1865. William is the oldest child of Mr. John Butler Yeats and Mrs. Susan Mary Pollexfen. William spent most of his early life in London where it was identified that, his father studied art but usually returned to Ireland to have some time with his family. John, William Butler’s father was trained as a lawyer but some time in his life, he abandoned law for art just after his first son, William was conceived.

William Butler went on and studied art as his personal choice in the middle 1880s at the Metropolitan School of Art which is situated in Dublin.

After William’s poems and other creative works got attention and publication in Dublin University Review in the year, 1885, he abandoned the art school again to pursue other pursuits outside his comfort zone.

 

William Butler’s Life As A Poet and Playwright

William Butler spent all his life writing poems and writing drama/plays. Somewhere in his career as a playwright and a poet, he teamed up with Lady Gregory to pit up plays for display in Ireland. William and Lady Gregory collaborated and produced his hit stage play Cathleen Ni Houlihan’. Just around that same period, William helped to discover the Irish National Theatre Society. He served as the theatre’s co-director with John Millington and Lady Gregory and William also served as the president. Several plays were put up and performed by the gurus. Among these are; At the Hawk’s Well, On Baile’s Strand and Deirdre respectively.

Who Was William Butler’s Wife?

William Butler was married to a Georgie Hyde-Lee in the year 1917. He improved his writing and made huge contributions to the poetry and writing world. William and his wife, Georgie Hyde-Lee, sat together as a couple and put up several writing sessions which they believe was inspired by some unknown forces for the spirit world. Through their energy and commitment, William was able to form up theories of human nature and history. Years into their marriage, they had two children, a daughter and a son. Their names were; Anne and William Michael.

William Butler As A Nobel Prize in Literature Winner

William Butler along with his career, become a very popular political icon in the new Irish Free State. He served under the structure as a senator for about 6 years which began in 1922. After 1922, William was eulogized and accoladed for his tremendous contributions to the writing industry. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1923.

 

Death

It is factual to say that, William Butler spent all his time on earth writing until he met his death. The writer kicked the bucket in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France on 28th January, 1939. His last hour legendary legacy works were stamped and remained in the heads of his followers. Among these are some of his most important works;

  • The Wandering of Oisin and Other Poems in 1889
  • The Countess Cathleen in 1892
  • The Wild Swans at Coole in 1917
  • A Vision in 1925
  • The Tower in 1928 and
  • Words For Music Perhaps and Other Poems in 1932.

Who Was William Butler?
