Most Commonly Used Words Invented By William Shakespeare

Shakespeare, as known, one of the history’s best poet and writer is actually estimated to have invented over 1,700 words all by himself of which most of them are in use as of today. Even though, most of the words among the 1,700 words who’ve been said to have been invented by Shakespeare, were already in used during the Jacobean and Elizabethan era.

These words were not known until Shakespeare used them in his works, thus, sonnets, poems and drama/plays. So I’m actual case Shakespeare is therefore accorded the necessary nod and respect to have been the first to use these words in the world.

A writer at Letterpile, Mr. Ryan Buda, explains it:

“But most likely, the word was in use for some time before it is seen in the writings of Shakespeare. The fact that the word first appears there does not necessarily mean that he made it up himself, but rather, he could have borrowed it from his peers or from conversations he had with others”.

These are some of the few words Shakespeare is credited to have brought to life and is still in use worldwide.
